About the Site

I try to log my observing and related activities in a regular blog - sometimes there will be a delay but I usually catch up. An index of all my blogs is on the main menu at the top of the page with daily, weekly or monthly views. My Twitter feed is below. I am also interested in photograping wildlife when I can and there is a menu option above to look at some of my images. I try to keep the news feeds from relevant astronomical sources up to date and you will need to scroll down to find these.

The Celestron 14 is mounted on a Paramount ME that I have been using for about 10 years now - you can see that it is mounted on a tripod so is a portable set up. I still manage to transport it on my own and set it all up even though I have just turned 70! It will run for hours centering galaxies in the 12 minute field even when tripod mounted.

Unloading the truck and settling in today plus a trip to Mojacar to the Mercadona Supermarket and the cash machine. My usual Barclays Bank cash machine had vanished - along with the bank - don't know what happened there! Fortunately a Spanish Bank was next door and their cash machine happily dispensed some Euros to me. Also to the SuperTurre supermarket in Turre and the HSH English Shop(Home Sweet Home)  in Turre to buy a toaster.

The day was quite warm with a hot sun but a light cloud covering. In the evening I set up my TAL telescope on the terrace.(see view from terrace above - that is the Med in the centre of the image)

This image shows the Meditteranean sea a little more clearly

The terrace overlooks orange and lemon trees

The Moon was near full and I took some handheld shots through the TAL and with a 300mm lens with my Sony Alpha 350 DSLR.

I used the TAL to observe the Pleiades, Mizar and Alcor and the Double Cluster in Perseus. Orion is brilliant in the sky - it is amazing how many stars I can see compared to Leyland even with a very bright Moon.

If you think the trip down here is not worth it just compare the weather situation in Leyland and Almeria shown below!
